BUILD YOUR PERSONAL BRAND WITH CLOTHES

November 24, 2017

BUILD YOUR PERSONAL BRAND WITH CLOTHES

Your outfit is self expression. It says something about you to those around you, so it’s best to approach clothes with intention and purpose. Use your clothes and style to build your personal brand. Your style can even reflect what you stand for. Use your style as a tool to stand out and be noticed and to reinforce yourself as a professional woman.

Clothing gives an idea of your character and even boosts your confidence if you feel good about what you wear. It is important how you feel in your clothes because this feeling can make or break an outfit.

Do the clothes you own reflect your personal ‘brand’? Otherwise it might be time for a wardrobe update!

FIND YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE

First and foremost you need to figure out who you are. Think about what best describes your values and you as a person. Develop your style and appearance to one that indicates who you are. A style that will set you apart and something you want people to remember about your appearance. Remember that even though it’s a beautiful clothing it is not necessarily going to fit and be your style. Make sure you take the time and effort to create your style and find what looks good on you.

Your clothing can indicate emotions, ambition, your spending habits and conscious consumption.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU WEAR

You are what you wear, they say. So make sure you feel good about what you wear. Also buy clothes from brands that treat people and the environment with respect. Keep in mind that when you buy cheap clothes you are maintaining the countless problems that are damaging the fashion industry.

According to psychologist Dr. Jennifer Baumgartner, author of ‘The Psychology of Dress’, you can use your wardrobe to change how other people perceive you, and even more importantly – how you see yourself.

Imagine the message you can send with your clothes. Conscious consumption is a fashion statement, since you are choosing a brand that is socially responsible and supports a cause you care for. This way you indicate that you care about how your clothing were made. Staying consistent with your clothing helps you to remain consistent with the message you are sending out.

Remember not to dress how you feel – but how you want to feel. Lighter, softer tones create a wardrobe that conveys femininity but also power and confidence. If you want to be known for a cool, no nonsense exterior, then you might want to choose a fitted dress and stiletto shoes, pieces that give a look of someone whose exterior cannot be penetrated.

What clothes make you feel powerful, confident, independent and comfortable? Make an effort to ensure that everything looks consistent, that you use the right colors and that you are giving off a strong message.

CREATE A UNIQUE PERSONAL STYLE

There are plenty of ways to add personal accents to your clothing without sacrificing the integrity of the ensemble. You can spice things up with your favorite accessory.

You can quickly capture attention with an eye catching scarf in flattering colors. Something as simple as wrapping a beautifully patterned elegant scarf around your shoulders or tuck your scarf under a belt over a plain t-shirt for a unique look  can have a huge impact on your style. Not everything is about making giant improvements to your closet.

Scarves are definitely not just for colder weather. They can actually take almost any outfit up a notch. But in order for a scarf to make your outfit sexy and elegant, you have to know how to wear one. (We’ll give you our best tips on how to wear your favorite scarf in a blog post next week.)

If you are bored with your shirt – why not just roll up the sleeves? That gives it an easy and laid back look. It's an easy way to inject a little cool even to your most classic shirts.

WHAT MAKES A CLASSIC?

A classic is a style with multiple functions, a style appropriate for different age ranges and body types. It became a classic because it works no matter who you are and you feel good about wearing it. If you are not sure what to wear then make sure to keep a classic and timeless design piece in your closet that you know will always work.

GET INSPIRED

Most important – define yourself, reinforce your signature style and feel good about what you wear. You might only need a few wardrobe updates and a beautiful accessory to pop up your casual wear and get a signature style.

Communicate that you are confident, independent and comfortable through the clothing you choose. With a stylish and consistent wardrobe, you can help to boost the confidence you have in yourself.

Make a choice to support the people behind the products
Make a choice to support the people behind the products

Supporting slow fashion is about more than positively impacting the environment. It’s about making a choice to support the people behind the clothes and accessories, to choose quality over quantity, to choose longevity over trends. I regularly witness our society’s obsession with consumption and the constant need for more. This ultimately just leads to more waste. Rather than supporting this narrative and the pressure to keep up with the never ending and ever changing trends, we can decide to slow down and change our habits. Slow fashion is about more than clothes. It’s about the story behind your clothes.

The term upcycling - repurposing has become very trendy nowadays amongst people wishing to live a more sustainable lifestyle. So what exactly is it?

To be perfectly honest, it is a lifestyle, which was the norm before the industrial revolution’s consumerism driven global expansion spread, and plastic started to seep into our households, not only in the form of packaging but also household items.
